"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

SUZIE
Adopted May, 2000
Here's Susie. The poor little thing
that we adopted no longer
exists. She is now a fat, spoiled little monster. This is her
favorite
chair (obviously). As you can see, life for her is rough... She
has gained
quite a bit of weight. Her very favorite thing to do is eat! She's
like a
little vacuum cleaner. She'll eat anything! She spends her days
lounging
around the house and playing with Romeo (my Boxer). She's a huge
copy-cat.
She copies everything Romeo does, so now she jumps up and down
and barks
when I come home, she takes things out of my bedroom, chews on
my
clothing, etc. Gotta love her! At night she sleeps in bed with
my mother and hogs the bed!
--Megan W.
(A note from BRCC...)
Susie was pulled from a kill-shelter less than 30 minutes before her time to be euthanized.
She was tick infested, mal-nourished, hand-shy, and suffering from fear/anxiety urination.
Suzie was given a second chance and a new life.
Thanks to caring families like Suzie's, thousands of Bassets are saved each year
and, repay their families with friendship, loyalty and love.

The following pictures are of Bonnie
and Clyde.
Adopted June, 2000
They were found wandering the streets
of Marin, CA. Bonnie weighed 100lbs. (+) and was completely blind.
Clyde was healthy and acted as Bonnie's seeing-eye-Basset. They
were both adopted by Nico in Northern California and couldn't
have asked for a more wonderful home. Bonnie's sight was not restorable
and requires daily treatment to keep her comfortable. Bonnie also
needed to get some weight off! Clyde had his behavioral difficulties
(King status was demanded!) and Nico still had it in her
heart to add Bonnie and Clyde to her existing canine family of
three. At last report, they all were doing wonderfully! Bonnie
has lost weight and Clyde has settled down. Hats off to Nico!!

LEXUS
Adopted August 2000
"Lexus is doing great. she
is a wonderful dog. she is so playful and happy all the time.
the only thing she does that upsets me anymore is that often she
goes to the neighbor's house and plays with their goat "Chester"
he likes it, and the neighbors don't mind so i guess it's not
really a big deal, and Lexus always comes running back at full
steam when i give a whistle. she is very well mannered, she sits,
stays, lies down, comes when she's called (which i understand
is very un-Basset like) and I've even trained her to stay off
my bed and couch! "

Baxter and Sissy were thin, full of tape worms and unaltered when turned in by their owner.
They are now healthy and working on gaining some weight with their new families.
A big THANK YOU to the Scott and
Senior families for giving both of these Bassets a second chance.

ZOE
April, 2001
As you can see, Zoë is really
doing very well here. She has gained a
little weight, and is filled out quite nicely. She is so active,
though, I
don't believe we need worry about a weight problem with this girl.
She has
developed into quite a clown also, and isn't really the shy sweetie
she led
you to believe she is. Zoë and Skunk are finally getting
along pretty well,
although Skunk still believes she must have the upper hand, Zoë
does try to
be the "alpha" female from time to time. They have even
been caught playing
together occasionally. We have discovered that Zoë is a very
energetic girl
and loves to play, she still chases her tail, which I believe
is rather odd
for a dog of her age, but she does it!!!! Doesn't catch it, tho,
however
hard she tries.

TOBY
May, 2001
Toby has adjusted well to our home
and routines. He's adjusted to our cat and dog and vise versa.
Toby loves to "talk" to us when he wants to play chase
around the house. A couple of times we found him sprawled out
on the kitchen table looking very comfy. He definitely loves the
cushy life! Toby will take a drink of water from his bowl as his
long ears dip in. He will then walk around the kitchen linoleum
and wash the floor with his wet ears! Toby is full of fun and
is gentle with children of all ages. Grown ups and kids adore
him. He also travels well in the van. We all love him dearly.

Cookie
We just wanted you to know that
Cookie was settling in just fine here.
We went for a couple of walks today and she ate a big dinner.
Cleo is
still wondering what's going on, but I'm sure that they will get
along
just fine. Right now, Cookie is taking a nap in the living room
as you
can see in the pic.

Hi Michele
I thought that I'd give you an update on Cookie. I weighed her
today and
she's a whopping 45 lbs. That's almost 15 lbs over what she was
when you
brought her to us. Her personality is really developing and she
can be
quiet sassy at times. She's developed a fondness for tomatoes
and helps
herself to the fresh ones on the vines. She also likes peanuts
and
competes with the squirells for them. Of course too much of any
of these
things is not good, so we have to moniter her a lot. I've attached
a
couple of pics that I took today so that you can see how she looks
compared to Cleo. Take care and keep up the good work.

Hi Michele,
Today is the one year anniversary of when you brought Cookie to
us. She is no longer that skinny little thing with her ribs protruding.
She's not exactly fat, but has filled out very nice. In fact,
she's now on somewhat of a diet, with green beans supplementing
some of her regular food. She's just had her dinner and has settled
down for her evening nap.
I've attached a couple of pics that I took this afternoon so that
you can see what she looks like.
We appreciate all of the fine work that you and the other folks
at the Rescue Society do to help our Basset friends.
The next time that you happen to be in our area, please feel free
to stop by to say Hi to Cookie and our Beautiful Cleo.

Bubba
(Previously Clyde)
Adopted August, 2001
Definitely Heaven!
A Note from BRCC:
Bubba was pulled from a shelter shortly before his time to die. He was slow to walk due to the 15 foxtails
that had been embedded and infected between his toes. He was a typical shelter dog, suffering from ear
infections (due to foxtails), full of fleas and ticks and depressed. Marjorie adopted him, pampers him to
no end and look at him now! He deserves every minute.
Thank you Marjorie for giving him what every Basset deserves.

Hello!
We are the Warfields and adopted a fabulous dog last August from
BRCC. Her name is/was Maggie Mae.
She is really camera shy and tends to cower if you have a camera
in your hand, but here is a good picture of her and I thought
you might want to see how she's doing.
We love her very much and can't thank you enough for bring her
into our family!
Have a wonderful day!
Trish
